About me

Hi, I’m Dr Mia. I’m a clinical psychologist working and living in Bristol. I believe that therapy is about helping people break free from stuck patterns using compassion, acceptance and the strengths they already have.

I have worked with a broad range of people who have experienced a number of mental health challenges and concerns, and I specialise in self-esteem, anxiety and adjustment to major life transitions (particularly health concerns).

What to expect…

When we meet, you can expect to be heard and understood from the start. I take care to make space for the concerns you want to bring. We can work through your current challenges to understand where you get stuck and where cycles can be broken. We’ll work to understand what your therapy hopes are, and tailor our approach to help you reach these goals.

I often work with people to understand why it makes sense that their brain works in the way it does, and teach people ways to question if their mind is truly helping them lead a fulfilling life or whether it is stuck protecting you from past harm. If you like, we can spend some time exploring your past and how it might be influencing you today. Importantly, I meet you where you are at and use your goals to tailor your therapy experience.

We can work together to try out new, compassionate ways of working with your minds old, sticky habits. We can build experiments to test when the old habits work, and when the new ones might bring more life. We can explore what matters to you, how you want to live your life, and we can build up the confidence you might need to sit with uncomfortable feelings that might show up along the way.

Importantly, I’m not here to take away your feelings. Fear, sadness, anger, joy - these all have a place in your life to shine a light on your needs, safety, and passion. However, we can help you find ways of getting comfortable with these feelings and unlearning past stories that encourage you to fear or avoid them.
